Antonio García Ruiz is a composer and sound artist based in Montréal.
Trained in classical composition at the Royal Conservatory of Granada under Francisco González Pastor and Juan Cruz-Guevara, and later at the Sibelius Academy of Helsinki with Tapio Tuomela, he works across contemporary classical music, experimental sound, and film scoring.
His practice blends acoustic instrumentation, electronics, and field recordings, shaped by a minimalist approach and a precise attention to sonic detail. Rejecting superficiality in both aesthetic and conceptual realms, his work is rooted in poetic and philosophical inquiry, often reflecting on digital and urban (non)-habitation, sensory disassociation, and the ritualistic nature of the everyday.
His compositions have been performed by ensembles such as Camerata Gala and Cuarteto Jordán. He was awarded first prize in the orchestral category of the Royal Conservatory of Granada’s composition competition and was a finalist in the Composition Contest for Emerging Andalusian Composers. His music has been presented at international festivals including Festival Atemporánea (Buenos Aires), Festival Eutopia, Gala Fest (Córdoba), denkFEmale (Munich), and in cities such as Lisbon, Helsinki, Mexico City, and Madrid.
He has held composer-in-residence positions at Fundación Antonio Gala and Radio Relativa, and has collaborated with visual artists, filmmakers, poets, and theatre-makers. His work for film are marked by emotional depth and a boundary-pushing approach to narrative sound.
Alongside his work for film and concert music, he releases experimental works under the moniker antxnio graz, with music published by the independent label Dragon’s Eye Recordings, curated by Yann Novak.
